22-year-old South Sudanese-born, Melbourne-based Manuxella is the latest member of 66 Records, and she's here to make her mark on R&B and soul music. She takes influence from the likes of SZA, Summer Walker and Kehlani, and you can hear that in her voice, but she adds her own spin to things. Oh, and it's pronounced "Manu – x – Ella", in case you were wondering.
She's just released her debut single, Perfect Mistake, and it's a track that captures the heartbreak that Manuxella has been through in the past. Speaking about the track, she says, "Perfect Mistake is taken from personal experiences where I’ve faced tough times in my life, the song takes you a journey of heartbreak, deception and lies. I want the listeners to embrace those times and understand that everyone goes through those times that break you down, those times that make you feel empty.
"By the end of the song I want it to empower you, I want it to make you feel that anything is possible. We all make those perfect mistakes, but they happen to everyone and picking yourself up and continuing to be strong, resilient and realising that you are perfect the way you are." The track features production from Somber Hills, and his bouncy production allows for Manuxella's vocals to shine.
She wants to make music that moves people all around the world, and she wants to inspire other young African-Australian females. Her mission is to prove that if she can achieve her goals, those that look up to her can, too.
