If you haven't heard the name Preditah, then you've definitely heard his production. Having worked with some of the most exciting and influential artists in the UK, he's spreading his wings, weaving his sound through the UK grime and garage scenes. He's gearing up to drop new music soon, and given his track record, hits are on the way.
He's been making music since the age of 14, all the way back in Birmingham, DJing birthday parties and local clubs. While he's made his name as a producer, he still loves DJing. Speaking to Student Pocket Guide, he puts his breakthrough down to when "JME discovered me". Since then, he's worked with and remixed the likes of Jorja Smith, JME, Skepta, Wiley and more, and his list of producer credits reads like a who's who of UK music.
He recently spoke to Trench about his collaboration with Jorja Smith, On My Mind, which is one of the tunes that put him on the map. “When I was ready to drop [On My Mind], Jorja was on tour after featuring on Drake’s More Life — and I was on my own tour in the States. But it came out at the right time, at a point where I’d already made a name for myself and she was blowing up.
"Any earlier and it wouldn’t have done what it did. My name was on On My Mind, and your average person knows me now because of it, so I’m getting the benefits of having my name on a song — it’s weird. I’ve always had the skill, but On My Mind showed me that what I’m doing is the right thing."
Preditah says grime's appeal is its realness, and something that he focuses on. Speaking to RWD Mag, he says, "Grime is about dancing and having fun and re-loads It’s not at it’s peak yet, it’s gonna get bigger and it’s still not owned by the labels, it’s still underground."
We can't wait for new music from Preditah, and to see where he takes grime and garage music next. Until then, however, we'll just have some of his biggest collaborations on repeat.
