Genres come and go, and right now nothing seems deader than the dreaded trip hop. The once beating heart created by the likes of Portishead, Tricky and Massive Attack has been crushed to death by 1000 or more albums with the words “ultimate chill out” in their title. Ultimate Bore would seem more appropriate.
Led by Busy P – AKA baseball-capped, head honcho Pedro Winter - Ed Banger Records have risen from low key Parisian rock’n’roll cool to become one of global clubland’s most colourful and recognizable music outlets. It could be said they’ve ascended to maturity yet, in many ways, Ed Banger remains gleefully youthful, holding to the spirit of the party - a stable of DJ-producers with a huge sense of fun and old-fashioned loyalty to each other and their fans criss-crossing the world.
So a promo copy of the upcoming Breakbot album landed on my desk recently at exactly 3pm, almost as if it were fate that had hand delivered this pleasant surprise to me personally at such an hour of the afternoon. For it is widely known, that at this time of day in offices all around the world, munchies set in for a vast number of faithful working folk.
