100 gecs are preparing to get even bigger with the upcoming release of their new album 10000 gecs, and they've just released the first single from the project, mememe.
mememe is a showcase of the band's love of ska, and sounds like a pop-punk, electronic, ska and pop track, all at the same time. The band are sounding as off-the-wall as ever, but mememe is as catchy as anything you'll hear this year. That's part of the magic of the band's music.
Life's changed a lot since the band's last album, 2019's 1000 gecs. In many ways, listening to a song by 100 gecs feels like listening to music from the future - and mememe is the same. It's a song that draws from the past, but mashes everything together in a way that's entirely unexpected. What was once old is new again.
Speaking about 10000 gecs to Pitchfork, vocalist Laura Les says, “As I’ve been exploring my voice more, I’m like, ‘I can do this. And also I’m sick of worrying about it. If I don’t just fucking do it, then I’m just a scaredy cat. And I don’t want to be a scaredy cat.” We're tipping that 10000 gecs will be their biggest release yet.
