Seeing Grace Jones live in Sydney earlier this year was as good as we could have hoped it would be. Backed by a fantastic band playing dub-wise style, and not ‘retro’ at all (think funky reggae party) she served up a great set full of all the hits - Pull Up To The Bumper, a slinky Nightclubbing, a funny Jamaican Guy and a new wave Love Is The Drug among others including some decent new material.
There were great costume changes involving flying shoes as well as her un-shyly rocking Keith Haring designed body paint and pulling it off with ease at 67.
She was as charismatic as ever and her banter included a good joke about old mate Dolph Lundgren which sent us looking back at her life and after doing so we’ve decided that the fact that she's releasing a memoir is the BEST. NEWS. EVER.
Here are 10 reasons why it’s going to be an essential read you won't be able to put down.
1. Her church background
2. Her modelling days with Jerry Hall & Jessica Lange (among others)
3. She's the queen of disco...
4. The Studio 54 days… ie mountains of cocaine (and glamour)
5. Lots and lots of sex
with Dolph
and Arnie
6. This artwork by Jean-Paul Goude -
and this…
7. Bond, James Bond.
8. Collaborating with Keith Haring
9. This infamous moment on Russell Harty -
10. And last but certainly not least, finding out that she fires shots at contemporary pop-stars such as Miley Cyrus, Rihanna & Nicki Minaj stating they have "no long-term vision" Pass the popcorn please!
And there you have it… We're not sure how it won't be a best seller and a good craic too!
