This week has been shocking in terms of news emerging about women in music being heckled, harassed and demeaned on stage by men in the crowd as they simply try to do their jobs - which is entertain us.
As Pilerats writes, not only did Maggie Rogers speak out this week about being catcalled during a vulnerable moment in her set, but local star Angie McMahon was wolf-whistled while she was simply taking off her jacket on stage.
To complete the awful trifecta this week, London-based US rapper Ashnikko has explained that she was almost brought to tears in Dallas this week by a dude in the crowd yelling that her "music sucked", who went onto put on headphones right in the front of her in the crowd. Rude.
"last night some lame ass dude was heckling me n shouting that my “music sucks” while I was onstage. put his own headphones on & nearly had me in fuckin tears midset," she wrote on Twitter.
Thankfully, Ashnikko was supporting the GOAT Danny Brown in Texas, who was not about to tolerate the guy's behaviour at his shows and promptly shut him the hell down. Just watch this footage:

Then @xdannyxbrownx comes onstage & stops his show to say this! a legend! I will never stop singin his praises https://t.co/A6KEN1MBQq

Unfortunately, until women in music are afforded the same respect as men, this conversation is one that we're gonna keep having, but as long as legends like Danny Brown are around to call out the bullshit in spectacular fashion hopefully we'll make some progress, one heckler at a time.
