Brian Wilson May Not Be The Messiah... But His Disciples Are On Point.

We are not, as a rule, the biggest Beach Boys fans. People rave and rave (and listen to bootlegs, alternate mixes, and box sets of rare stuff) but Brian Wilson and Co. don’t always hit the spot.

Crazy and inspired yes, but essential, not so much.

But this little mix by someone called James Monk is very great. 24 songs by groups and artists who worship at the church of Wilson, mixed together in a Beach Boys homage titled B-Boys at the C-Side. The usual suspects like The High Llamas (an excuse to revisit their superb Hawaii album), Panda Bear, Grizzly Bear, Animal Collective and The Besnard Lakes, with some less obvious bits from the likes of The Avalanches, Dinosaur Jr and Primal Scream. Some obscurities like The Morning Benders, The Tokens and The Superimposers, and some back in the day joints like Billy Nicholls and Todd Rundgren. And everyone’s favourite Japanese madcap genius Cornelius.

Beautiful music for our sunny winter. And there to download too. Quick, Quick, the copyright owners are coming.
