    A lot of conspiracy theories float around the internet but this one seems a little darker, with Britney Spears fans online this week sharing that they believe Britney is being held against her will at a mental health facility in Los Angeles.

    The allegations are stemming from the fact that 37-year-old Britney has been under a conservatorship - basically when a legal guardian is appointed to manage a person's financials and day-to-day life if the person is mentally unable - for over 10 years. 

    Twitter user @RescueBritney has put together a pretty extensive thread on why they and many Britney fans believe the conservatorship is a way for Britney's father and management team to control her over the years, and how unusual it is that she's been under one since 2008 - when she had her very public breakdown.

    The allegations have been picking up steam and protesters have even gathered at West Hollywood's City Hall to ask for Britney's release from the mental health facility and from her conservatorship.
