We're big fans of the idea of the "butterfly effect", which is where one small change can have a huge impact on the future. This can be seen in all aspects of life, but a recent Reddit thread about the effect in music caught our eye.

We've gone through and selected some of our favourite examples from the thread, because these are the ones that shocked us the most (but there are a lot more examples for you to discover).

Without Michael Jackson's producer, Teddy Riley, moving to Virginia, the careers of the likes of Pharrell, Britney Spears, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean and more might never have existed.

This comment linking together Britney Spears and Ariana Grande's career makes a lot of sense, but we've never thought about it like that before...

Niall Horan has Katy Perry to thank for him being in One Direction, which only came about because she was filling in on X-Factor for Danii Minogue.

If you're a fan of wearing leggings/yoga pants in public, you can thank Lady Gaga for her service.
