We were big fans of Anna Calvi’s first album Desire which had a delicious filmic element and tango-ness to it. Maybe it was the flavour of PJ Harvey-ness about her.
Sadly we didn’t love One Breath as much, and probably didn’t give it enough of a chance. It didn’t seem to sell so much either.
Anna was undaunted though and has been releasing a series of rather beautiful covers of which this take on Springsteen’s Fire is very good with its darkness a great contrast to the Pointer Sister’s version.
And now thanks to a covers EP taking in Bowie, Suicide and Keren Ann and with David Byrne guesting as well as her take on FKA Twigs’ Papi Pacify (yes remember we are obsessed) with all the bleeps and bumps replaced by guitars… we’re in love again.
