Fresh from dropping the Taste EP back in July, Sydney bubblegum pop producer Donatachi has just put his spin on fellow Sydney producer Perto and Kah-Lo's newest cut Bad Maybe Good as part of Perto's new Bad Maybe Good remix pack.
It's a boisterous, bombastic spin on what was already an insanely huge track, so we thought we'd ask Donatachi what his top five remixes are.
It's no surprise the songs he picks - notable PC Music artists like Charli XCX and SOPHIE are big influencers on the producer, while he also namechecks some newer names like Umru and Doss.
Check it Donatachi's explanations below and remember, you can catch Perto live this month around the country at Listen Out Festival.
Charli XCX - Blame It On Your Love (Dylan Brady remix)
Dylan has produced some of the best pop songs of the decade and is one half of my favourite band 100 Gecs with Laura Les, and this track is such a good introduction to their sound. The beat hits so hard in the bridge and by the time the supersaw synths in the chorus start you know you might be listening to something even bigger than the original.
Slayyyter - Mine (Umru remix)
It’s hard to improve on an already perfect vibe but this beat slaps so hard. Umru is a master at taking straight up pop and filtering it through a unique club perspective full of unexpected turns and wild effects and the rhythm of this beat gets me thrashing and spilling my drink in the club every time.
Yelle - Moteur Action (SOPHIE + AG Cook remix)
This is THE example of why I love remixes, it totally transforms the song and elevates it to something huge and unhinged. SOPHIE’s huge kicks and metallic FM drum sounds complimented by AG’s hyper euphoric synth work is a dream. I've listened to this so many times I've forgotten what the original sounds like!
SOPHIE - Whole New World (SOPHIE + Doss remix)
I am the biggest Doss stan, their music has been such a big influence on me, so I would be blasting this in Ubers every weekend even if it was bad. I'm such a sucker for the classic bubbly Doss arpeggiated synths and this playful rave take still measures up to the flawless original.
Danny L Harle - Me4U (AG Cook remix)
I’m a huge Danny fan and always thought the original was cute but this AG Cook remix is so next level and I think I've played it at every show I've ever done. AG really shows off his ability to program crazy intense drum + synth patterns that feel like a total assault in one moment but then breaks to demonstrate his uniquely unpredictable chord progressions over heavenly pads. 10 out of 10.
