Eminem may have just created his biggest influence with the word 'stan' being added to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary.
It has been online slang for years now but the official definition is, "to exhibit fandom to an extreme or excessive degree : to be an extremely devoted and enthusiastic fan of someone or something."
It also notes that the word was first used in 2000 which was the year Eminem released. Stan was, of course, the name of the obsessive fan in the song and while Em has never openly said he intended the word to be used in the way it is now, he's widely credited.
It's the second major dictionary the word has been added to after it found itself in the Oxford English Dictionary back in 2017.
So, there you go. You can now confidently use the word 'stan' without being questioned on its validity. Mac just put a red squiggly line under 'stan' for us but we can say you are wrong Mr. Tim Cook, not us.
'Stan' has been added as both a noun and a verb. https://t.co/Dal0N79sAU pic.twitter.com/q1kBkKR1rn
