Just last week, Flume fans were caught off guard when the Sydney-born producer said he was finally dropping a brand new mixtape called Hi This Is Flume. It was an experimental, challenging listen, with a slew of collaborators like SOPHIE, JPEGMAFIA and Kucka who we reckon made the mixtape what it was.
And less than a week on, the Grammy-winning dude has dropped his first official single since 2016, a new song that wasn't on Hi This Is Flume called Friends.
As Flume explained to triple j, the song also features 25-year-old rapper Reo Cragan, a friend from the US who's "going to be one to watch this year".
It's still a wonky listen which wouldn't be out of place if it DID live on Hi This Is Flume, but it's definitely a little more radio-friendly and similar to tunes we heard on Skin back in 2016.
Flume also assures fans that this year, the music will flow on more steadily than in the past.
"[I want to] just continually put out music... I’m actually doing a session with Tove Lo right now.
"There’s a lot of stuff on the way, I’m just keeping busy, writing lots of music... I feel like I had a big break and I don’t want to do that again, I want to be more consistent and put more music out."
Looks like it's gonna be The Year Of Flume.
