Those sons of bitches over at future classic have some green thumb when it comes to cultivating electronic hits, or e-hits as I like to call them. Actually scratch that, I’m never going to use the term e-hits again, that’s appalling. Shorthand aside, they have been A&Ring some really strong picks this last year or two and have grown from small fry to bigwig in not all that long. The boywonder Flume has probably given them a huge boost in capital that they’ve invested in a few little projects this past year, one of which is Brisbane native Charles Murdoch.
He’s been no stranger to the remix with retouches of Flume’s Sleepless and recent Triple J mainstay from Hayden James ‘Permission To Love’. Crisp, high fidelity beats that don’t challenge the listener with any problematic time signatures seem to be his modus operandi and that’s the basis by which his newest single 'Dekire’ exists. For me though, the key to this one is the vocal take by Oscar Key Sung who you may remember as the single greatest music talent Australia currently possesses. He’s usually got a gut full of emotion in his voice but on this track it’s stripped back a bit lighter and he floats above it all, slightly more aloof and unaffected than usual. If you haven’t already heard it, check out his 'Tape Voice’ EP that featured in my top Australian EPs of 2012 list.
For now though, imbibe this number right here, it’s a winner.
