R&B singer Giveon has covered PinkPantheress's adrenaline-inducing track Just for me during his BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge performance, and he's turned it into a slow jam that'll have you swooning.
Backed by a live band, Giveon's arrangement of the track adds acoustic elements to turn the song into something that feels right in his wheelhouse, with each lyric holding significant emotional weight thanks to his silky vocals. PinkPantheress says Just for me is about "unhealthy obsession", and Giveon's voice highlights the longing present in the original.
It's an interesting cover choice, but one that Giveon pulls off with ease. Where the original feels like it's rushing along at a mile a minute (which is why so many people have fallen in love with it), Giveon's version gives each element of the track space to breathe. It's a great way to showcase his talent, as well as the intricacies of the original track.
The cover comes as PinkPantheress gears up to release her debut mixtape, To hell with it, which will feature Just for me. Speaking about the project, PinkPantheress says, “I’m super excited to share this project with you all as my first body of work, I’ve been collecting songs that I’ve made this year and while I’m still developing my sound, I’m hoping these songs immerse you into your ideal fantasy world as you listen."
