Aussie hip-hop icon Illy has entered his newest era, reinventing himself with a more pop-oriented sound for his latest single, Like You.
Entering the world of music with the release of Long Story Short back in 2009, Illy has managed to cement himself as one of Australia's most beloved and consistent performers, constantly flirting with greater success upon every release. In 2016, he experienced some of the biggest chart success of his career, hitting the top ten with the Vera Blue-featuring Papercuts, from his first chart-topping album, Two Degrees.
Having followed up this success with the arrival of his second consecutive chart-topper The Space Between, Illy has now returned with a new single to launch into his new era.
Titled Like You, the single sees him delivering a pulsating, hook-laden single that utilises the writing talents DMA’S Johnny Took, Peking Duk’s Reuben Styles and Adam Hyde, alongside Styalz Fuego and Black Summer on production.
"I’m stoked to be releasing new music, especially after the last few years," Illy said in a statement. "I wanted to kick off the new era with a bang, and 'Like You' was the perfect fit for that.
"Working with some of my favourite Australian artists and producers made the process a lot of fun, and something to be excited about. This really shines through in the track. I’ve listened to this song 1000 times and still, I love this song."
Alongside the release of the single, Illy has also announced his signing to Warner Music Australia for his first release on the label since 2016's Two Degrees.
"I am absolutely delighted to be welcoming Illy back into the Warner Music family." said Warner Music Australasia President Dan Rosen. "Not only is he a powerhouse within the Australian music community, he is also an exceptionally talented and driven artist who remains at the top of his game.
