Aussie duo SLUMBERJACK love working with other artists - it's a great way for them to get the most out of their sound. They've just teamed up with fellow Perth artist Sydnee Carter for their latest track Poison, and you'll feel it coursing through your veins. Trust us, this track is addictive. You won't be able to get Sydnee's voice out of your head.
Speaking about the track, the duo says, “It’s been a long time since we’ve felt this in tune with a track - it represents everything we’ve been working towards as musicians over the years. Sonically it’s the first time we really felt like we nailed what we call jokingly in the studio the “hi-def” sound.
It’s supposed to feel like a pleasant wind. Musically it’s a step into a new era, bringing with us all the amazing stuff we’ve learnt along the way. And of course the incredible vocals of Sydnee Carter who we knew we had to work with again.”
To celebrate the release of Poison, SLUMBERJACK told us about some of their favourite collaborations. There are a couple of their own thrown in there, as well as tracks that inspire them to take their sound to the next level.
Numb / Encore - Linkin Park x Jay Z
An unlikely combination of pretty different genres, this was one of the very first EPs I listened to as I was getting into music and developing my own taste. I loved the idea that two artists had come together to not only do a single record but a whole EP, it’s something I think I would like to do one day as SLUMBERJACK.
Poison - SLUMBERJACK feat. Sydnee Carter
This one literally just came out and it’s easily one of our favourite records. We could have listed Afraid, Unafraid here as well because working with Sydnee Carter is always such a pleasure.
Things seem to happen so quickly and easily when we're working with her, and her vocal tone is very special. It's incredible that one of our favourite vocalists in the whole world is right here in Perth with us.
Face My Fears - Skrillex / Hikaru Utada
Another unexpected combination. This record has such a nostalgic yet bright, fun vibe and I’m always impressed by how they managed to maintain the vocal flow and feel in both the English and Japanese versions.
The Plan - Travis Scott x Ludwig Goransson
Collaborations that combine the best of both the worlds they come from really shine. This is the perfect example of that. Using the massive cinematic sounds from the Tenet soundtrack and combining them with Travis Scott’s unique style makes for a truly epic record.
Crucified - SLUMBERJACK x Daktyl feat. MOONZz
This track will always hold a special place in our hearts because it was truly a collaboration of friends. Daktyl and MOONz were some of the first people we met when we moved to LA and we instantly formed friendships. This record started after a game of chess in Daktyl’s backyard, with us attempting to combine a riff from every instrument in his studio into one record.
