Janelle Monáe is one of the most magnetic performers of our generation and she showed some of the stuffy, black-tie attendees of a Ralph Lauren fashion show dinner at New York Fashion Week exactly why.
Held at Ralph's Club, footage has emerged of Janelle looking a million bucks in a tuxedo dress at the fancy '30s-themed dinner and absolutely tearing apart her performance of jazz classics - she's standing on top of dinner tables, crawling on the floor, stealing people's wine glasses, throwing bread sticks, sitting on laps and singing in people's faces, all the while not missing a single damn beat.
Backed by a big band, Janelle reinvented jazz classics like Frank Sinatra, Irving Berlin and Nat King Cole as well as some originals.
You can watch her set from 12 minutes onwards - she starts off sultry and classic, only to pull off her blazer and totally tear the house down and damn, we wish we were there.
A meme has been making the rounds too of Cate Blanchett looking at her lovingly as she sings. Who can blame her?
