Late last month, Sydney-based Aussie songwriter JXN dropped another epic hip hop collab, roping in A$AP Twelvyy for the bop Going Off - he described the US rapper as "a genuine down to earth legend" and now that the song's music video has dropped, we can see exactly why.
The video is super meta and shows us all the antics happening backstage at their video shoot through a unique POV from each artist's eyeline, particularly when JXN and Twelvyy start to derail the shoot themselves by getting a bit too lit.
INTERVIEW: "He's A Down To Earth Legend": JXN's Team-Up With A$AP Twelvyy Is Here
It's a super sick concept and we really wanted to know how certain parts were shot (like when both artists are singing into the mirror) so we managed to cop some insight from the folks on set.
Directed by Macario de Souza - who has worked with Dune Rats and Twenty One Pilots in the past - the video was basically shot using unique helmets with cameras on top to give us that awesome POV perspective. So instead of having cameramen shoot them... JXN and Twelvyy basically were their own cameramen.
Those iconic mirror shots were done using rotoscoping - basically the artists were shot without the helmet, then edited into the mirror. A bit of smoke and mirrors, baby!
The crew on set were also the actual video shoot crew, so the behind-the-scenes you see is pretty legit - none of it was staged, just filmed from a different perspective.
JXN adds, "[The video was] done by a genius. I have no idea how he did it but it turned out amazing! Everyone who was on set was an extra and they were also crew! Because it was shot POV, everyone was involved.
"This one was definitely so fun, was just pretty much a big party that someone filmed."
