Every so often a modern hip hop or dance song comes around that interpolates a classic and this week, Dutch producer trio Kris Kross Amsterdam has somehow unearthed Shaggy and Janet Jackson's Luv Me Luv Me from the halcyon days of 1998 reggae-pop and thrust it into 2019 with their new song Ooh Girl.
They've enlisted rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and pop king Conor Maynard for the track and the use of that iconic 'ooh boy, I love you so' top line actually works in the scope of a pop/dancehall track.
A Boogie also adds a vibey verse to the track, showing off once again he's beginning to become a coveted feature artist.
Kris Kross Amsterdam aren't new to the interpolation game; their last single Whenever draws inspiration from Shakira's Whenever Wherever and Sex pulls from Let's Talk About Sex as well.
Even their name is homage to Kris Kross.
We have to add though, even Shaggy interpolated Luv Me Luv Me - Janet's chorus is actually originally from a '70s R&B group called Rose Royce, who had a song called Ooh Boy, though Janet and Shaggy were the ones to make it famous.
Anyway, check out the original Shaggy video because not only is it still a banger but Whoopi Goldberg kills it as a frustrated taxi customer.
