Charli XCX has been championing the PC Music for her last few releases now and it's no surprise that producer AG Cook's kooky, glitch-pop sound has made its way to Australia, too. In our own backyard, Brisbane's LÂLKA is flying the flag for obnoxiously fun, undeniably energetic tunes like her newest one Bang Bang, which Cool Accidents is excited to premiere today.
It might be hard to believe that LÂLKA's a classically trained musician - then again, those who know the rules know how to break them. Bang Bang breaks almost all these rules, with dissonant sounds, exaggerated samples and purposefully stark vocals that stick out against the darkness of the chorus.
"I wrote the song when I had been playing a couple of summer festivals (FOMO and Laneway), and wanted to write a song that was going to be fun to perform," LÂLKA explained.
"Lyrically, it's about being present in a moment of sheer fun, and not caring about ego, or not taking oneself too seriously. Hence the line, "You can call me a loser, a poser, whatever". I love it whenever people just let loose and bust out dance moves whenever I play music live."
It's got the energy of one of Charli older cuts Vroom Vroom with the poise of one of her latest Gone, all packed into her unique experience of being a WOC making status-quo-smashing music.
If you're heading up to BIGSOUND by the way, LÂLKA's playing and we think she's not one to miss. Check out why we think so here, plus who else you should see.
