Last of Lasts - Goodbye Maccy

Today we farewell the man behind this Cool Accident, Mike (Maccy) Corbett. Five years ago Maccy made the coolest accident of all, opening the site which in its time has showcased the raddest music around, presented many LOLs and playfully covered the going-ons in the Aussie music scene. Maccy’s moving on but not before we look back at some of his finest moments and put him the spotlight like he has with so many artists.

Maccy leaves behind a legacy of content that includes but is not limited to a Kim Kardashian Krispy Kreme meme that broke the internet, Deb ‘Spoons’ Perry taking on the Black Keys, and the In Their Shoes series which saw artists like Bon Iver, Santigold, Ed Sheeran, New Order and more take to Converse Chucks with a sharpie for charity. More recently he’s chastised Frank Ocean about dropping the album (Pls, Frank) and inducted Flume into the Fluminati with meme upon meme (if you’ve kept an eye on CA’s Facebook you’ll know what we meme).

As a final adieu, Maccy’s answered his last of lasts covering off his current jams, a karaoke fav and his last musical crush.

    1.       Last record/tape/CD you were given?

I was privy to being passed an advance copy of Cass McCombs' album Mangy Love on ANTI- the other day, and it’s a bloody beauty. Mark August 26 on your calendar if you’re a fan of records that on first listen feel like you’ve heard them a million times but in the best way possible (i.e The War On Drugs – Lost In The Dream, Whitney – Light Upon The Lake).

    2.       Last  record/tape/CD you bought with your own $$?

The Avalanches’ Wildflower which was 100% without a doubt absolutely worth the 140,160 hour wait. Yes, even Frankie Sinatra.

    3.       Last concert you went to?

The only concert I remember seeing this year was Sufjan Stevens at Hamer Hall, total game/life changer.

    4.       Last song you sang at karaoke?

    4 Non Blondes – What’s Up. Don’t believe me, just watch…

    5.       Song/album that was playing last time you did it?

Hmmmm… Probably a 3-5 minute portion of this playlist.

    6.       Name of your last (most recent) musical project/band?

Definitely not recent but I was a member of 2up who specialised in LOL rap bu$iness. On a side note, where has the fun in hip hop gone? Maybe that’s why I dig Frankie Sinatra so much.

    7.       Last musical crush?

    Sufjan Stevens. Srsly.

    8.       Last (most recent) band shirt?

    Melbs’ Best - Milwaukee Banks.

    9.       The last song you listened to on your phone?

Junior McCants’ Try Me For Your New Love after reading an article that it recently sold for $17,000 US on eBay.

    10.  Hit us with a playlist with some of your fave LOLs and jams from your 5 years at Cool Accidents.

Here’s a bunch of things that hold a special place in my heart, including everyone’s fave spoonin’ grandma, Chet reminding us how ‘funky’ he is, Frank Ocean’s perfectly titled Lost, the best band I ever got to work with: Portugal. The Man and A Tribe Called Quest just to remind us all about industry rule #4080…

    11. Lastly, what's funkier than Chet Faker?

Bye bye, Maccy. You'll be missed.
