Lizzo's shared her new album, Special, and it absolutely lives up to its name. The album, which features smash hits About Damn Time and Grrrls, is arguably Lizzo's most personal project yet. Lizzo's honesty on Special is exemplified by its closing song, Coldplay. Speaking about the album to Apple Music, Lizzo says, "On this album, I didn't run from anything. If there’s a thesis to this album, it’s that. Embracing myself.”

Special's closing track samples Coldplay's Yellow, and tells the story of a trip Lizzo took to Tulum, Mexico, to spend time with a special someone. Lizzo sang Coldplay to the man who the song is about, and Lizzo recounts the experience on the track, reminiscing, "Singin' Coldplay in the night/Dancin' to no music just feels right with you/Ooh, ooh".

Appearing on Zane Lowe's Apple Music 1 show, Lizzo revealed the story behind Coldplay (the song), saying, "This is one of the most literal songs I’ve ever written. Everything I say in the song actually happened." Lizzo's poured her heart out on Special, and old and new fans alike will fall in love with Lizzo all over again after hearing her new record.

Zane and Lizzo's chat took a little bit of a surprise detour, with Coldplay's Chris Martin ringing Lizzo on Facetime to talk about the track in the middle of the interview. Chris said, "I love you, and you’re wonderful." He went on to say, "If someone had told me, 22 years ago, one day Lizzo’s going to make out to this song, I’d be like, ‘OK, great! It’s become Lizzo’s hookup song, and that’s good."

During their chat, Lizzo also proposed that the pair jump in the studio together, saying, “I mean, listen, the songs don’t got to come out with me and you. We've just got to do it. If we sat in the studio, and we just worked ... You play the piano, I’ll sing. Don’t nobody got to know, Chris.” Chris replied, "I don't mind people knowing. I'd like people to know." We need this to happen.

After Chris left the call, Lizzo remarked, "You never get used to the feeling of seeing the people who've inspired you acknowledge you. Seeing him is kind of surreal. My sister bought Coldplay's first album when it came out and it plays in the house. You sing the songs and they're in your DNA, you know the music." It's a powerful statement from Lizzo and one that rings 100% true.
