The UK's Mura Masa has called in Lil Uzi Vert, PinkPantheress and Shygirl for the addictive bbycakes, a track that's all about the sadness love. If you're a fan of futuristic electronic-tinged pop, then you'll find yourself bopping along to this one.
The track samples the UK Garage sounds of 3 Of A Kind's Baby Cakes, a genre that's familiar to Mura Masa, PinkPantheress and Shygirl. bbycakes brings together the worlds of UK garage and US hip-hop through Lil Uzi Vert's appearance, making it a truly global collaboration.
The trio of vocalists sound like they're blurring the edges of sounding human and sounding robotic, which gives the track a sense of unity. It might be a bit surprising to see all these names on the same track, but it works. Each artist gets a chance to shine, but they're all able to capture how it feels when someone doesn't know how you feel about them.
bbycakes is set to feature on Mura Masa's upcoming third album, which is set to explore what the future could have looked like if it wasn't for the pandemic. Where his second album R.Y.C leaned into nostalgia, this is set to capture the sounds that he's been experimenting with in recent times.
