Netflix is set to drop a new documentary about the Notorious B.I.G (aka Biggie Smalls), and the trailer has got us hyped.
The doco, Biggie: I Got A Story To Tell, will be released on March 1st. It's been executive-produced by Biggie's mother Violetta Wallace, as well as Sean "Diddy" Combs.
The documentary is set to tell the story of Biggie's early life, as well as covering his rise to the top of the rap game. It was first announced in 2017, but it's taken a while to complete (but it looks like it was worth the wait).
Director Emmett Malloy spoke to Rolling Stone about the documentary, saying, “The running joke about documentary films is often how long they take to make. This film lived up to all those stereotypes, taking us four years to develop and make it."
“Through those years we were immersed in Brooklyn in the 70s through the 90s. It is easy to see how much Brooklyn has changed since Christopher Wallace was a kid, but it’s also clear that many things about being a young black man in this country have not changed.”
A lot of the early video footage in the documentary has come from the archives of Biggie's childhood friend Damien "D Roc" Butler. Biggie was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during a virtual ceremony in November 2020, so it's a great time to learn the full story of Biggie's life.
