Hip-hop music comes faster than any other genre in 2018. It's not uncommon for a rapper to drop upwards of three projects a year and while that's great, it becomes increasingly hard to stay on top of it. 'The Rap Wrap' is our attempt to keep you in the know on the weekly. This week, we're hand delivering new tunes from Earl Sweatshirt and Mac Miller plus newies from local gems Sampa The Great and Kwame.
Mac Miller - Nothing From Nothing
This week Spotify released a live session that Mac Miller did before his passing and it features this incredible cover of Billy Preston's Nothing From Nothing. Mac's always had soul and this really tugs at the heartstrings.
Sampa The Great - Energy
Sampa levels up with every releases and it's no different story with her latest Energy. It's a strong and simultaneously soft statement of self accompanied by a beautiful video.
Earl Sweatshirt - Shattered Dreams
Shattered Dreams is a pretty devastating statement to begin an album on but Earl has never been afraid to shy away from that. The Some Rap Songs opener is a brooding, moody rap track driven by an affecting soul sample.
Kwame - Clouds
Sydney MC Kwame is one of our best local talents right now and Clouds is further proof of that. It's a charismatic, bubbly rap track that could see him find favour with Brockhampton fans.
Dounia & Kehlani - Rich Girl Mood
US teen Dounia and Kehlani are badass in this new collab that comes alongside one of the best visuals of the year. As per usual, Kehlani's vocals ensure the song is a home run.
Nicki Minaj - Good Form (Feat. Lil Wayne)
Nicki Minaj has re-released this Queen highlight with a Lil Wayne guest spot. The two are no strangers to collaborating with each other and it's unsurprising that this sounds right.
