Electronic trailblazer SOPHIE tragically passed away on Saturday, January 30th, after trying to see the full moon in Athens, Greece. To honour SOPHIE, who was a huge fan of space, fans have started a petition to name TOI-1338 b after her.
The planet was discovered in 2019 by Wolf Cukier, and recent images of the planet show a distinct resemblance to the cover of SOPHIE's album Oil Of Every Pearl's Un-Insides.
The explanation for the petition elaborates, saying, "SOPHIE released an album in 2018, titled Oil Of Every Pearl's Un-Insides. On the cover art for the album, SOPHIE sits surrounded by water in an ethereal setting. Recently revealed images TOI-1338 b, a planet discovered in the Summer of 2019 by Wolf Cukier, bear a resemblance to the setting pictured on the cover to Oil Of Every Pearl's Un-Insides.
"I am requesting that TOI-1338 b be named in honour of SOPHIE, in honour of a great LGBT+ influence. I want her name to be remembered and her influence to continue to flourish for many years to come."
The petition has already seen support from music figures like Zane Lowe, who tweeted it out and urged his followers to sign it.
