Sydney garage-pop punksters Bloods have been around for a minute now but they first came to our attention with their contributions on the pretty darn amazing compilation Nuggets: Antipodean Interpolations of the First Psychedelic Era, 1965–1968. Their killer take on the classic Farmer John was a highlight and they also provided some BVs on another one of our faves, Liar Liar with Step Panther.
They’ve been pretty busy recently, they released their debut EP Golden Fang which is full of super catchy rock ‘n’ roll jams and they also took part in our In Their Shoes project by delivering a rad pair of pizza inspired kicks.
It’s pretty obvious based on all the imagery included in this post that the band is partial to a slice of pizza so we caught up with indie rock’s answer to The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and asked them to tell us their fave pizza joints in Sydney.
MC:
Spot: Gigi in Newtown
Choice item: Tre Funghi e Stracchino (AKA Mushroom Pizza)
Why: These guys have made making pizza an art form. The cheese they use on this pizza is like crack and the mushrooms are so juicy you don’t even miss the fact it ain’t got no tomato sauce!
DIRK:
Spot: Dimitris in Surry Hills
Choice item: The American (pepperoni and mushroom).
Why: the pizza is life changing, the staff wear sweet paisley shirts and the stereo exclusively plays the best garage bands you’ve never heard!
Sweetie:
Spot: Cipro pizza al taglio in Alexandria
Choice item: Potato, leek, speck and three cheese
Why: I’ve always thought that the best pizza slices are big juicy triangles that are bigger than your head. Cipro has changed my mind. Their rectangle slices look like they might not fill you up but give it a chance. The potato, leek, speck and three cheese will melt your mind!
To find out more about Bloods checkout their Facebook or Bandcamp pages and in the meantime get your ears around their latest single 'No Fun’… But don’t let the title of that track confuse you, cuz these guys are more fun than Wet 'n’ Wild on a school day.
