Frank Ocean doesn't give many interviews, so when he talks, people listen.
In conversation with W Magazine, Frank has opened up about his plans for new music, saying it's influenced by “Detroit, Chicago, techno, house, French electronic” and other “iterations of nightlife."
The bad news? There's no release date, as of yet.
He also spoke about how he's looking to approach the creative process on the new record, saying, “I think for a while I’d like to get away from work that’s solitary by nature. I’ve never been in a band or had a songwriting partner or been with a group, so it’s always been a lot of time on my own writing and doing the work. I like the parts of the process where I work with session musicians or with other record producers or featured artists and guest vocalists.... in spaces where I’m not the expert.“
Frank Ocean fans have come to expect a level of vulnerability from Frank, but to him, that's not what he's most intrigued by. “In order for me to satisfy expectations, there needs to be an outpouring of my heart or my experiences in a very truthful, vulnerable way. I’m more interested in lies than that. Like, give me a full motion-picture fantasy.”
The interview is a rare insight into Frank's mind, and is well worth a read. We can only sit and wait for new music, but we're confident that it's on the way.
