Ziggy Ramo has shared his cover of Paul Kelly's From Little Things Big Things Grow just in time for Reconciliation Week, and it's a powerful reminder of the true history of Australia.
It's currently National Reconciliation Week (which goes until June 3rd), and the song opens with Ziggy Ramo saying, “Gather ’round people and I’ll tell you a story. 200 years of history that’s falsified.”
The track features Paul Kelly's choruses, while Ziggy's verses tell the true story of Australia, including the invasion and genocide of First Nations people, and the subsequent injustices they've faced.
Speaking about the track, Ziggy says, "From Little Things Big Things Grow has always been such an important song to not only me, but Australia. It was released in 1991, the same year as the Royal Commission into Indigenous deaths in custody.
"30 years on I feel honoured to be given permission by Paul Kelly and Kev Carmody to revisit the story from another perspective. Little Things doesn’t fit into a genre, it doesn’t really fit into today’s musical landscape but this art felt urgent and I wanted to share it with the world.”
The video for the song, which Ziggy directed, was filmed on top of the Sydney Opera House. He was given special permission to film there, and it makes the video even more impactful.
