Beastie Boys’ Mike D turns in a remix for Portugal. The Man’s, “Modern Jesus.” He bumps up the drums like crazy—compare it to the original to gauge the kick in the pants. Both parties seem very happy with the collaboration:
‘In Their Shoes’ has been running as IDYSM’s resident interview series for some time now, unearthing the fascinating stories from some equally fascinating people who all have a unique role and relationship with sneakers.
I don’t mean to alarm anyone but have you actually looked at the date recently? Shiiiiiit… Can you believe that 2013 is almost done and dusted?!
I recently had a mild freakout based on that fact and thought I’d better start preparing for the inevitable requests for my ‘end of year/best of’ lists so I fired up the ol’ iTunes to find out the tracks I’ve spun the most over the past 10 months…
Sometimes we start to feel that we’re more like a Portugal. The Man appreciation page than any kind of actual music blog… but hey.. it’s not our fault everything they do is super rad.
Peep the video for Modern Jesus below, one of our fave cuts off our album of 2013 Evil Friends. It contains twerking (standard), quad bikes, Fat Albert & The Junkyard Gang (?), John Gourley with a bloodied mouth and other cool/weird shit.
Portugal. The Man’s music has always had hip hop sensibilities and their latest album Evil Friends was no exception, in fact with Danger Mouse on the boards it was probably the furthest they’ve ventured into that world.
DJ Terry Urban obviously saw the potential and has whipped up a super super dope EP where he teams PTM jams with some of his and everyone else’s favourite rappers. Jay Z. Check. Kanye. Check. Biggie. Check.
When we saw that one of the world’s criminally most underrated bands Portugal. The Man had leaked pictures of themselves in the studio over the weekend we’d be lying if we said we weren’t a tad excited. What made us even more excited was the fact that included in the pics was a mugshot of Brian Joseph Burton otherwise known as DANGER MOUSE.
