Beastie Boys’ Mike D turns in a remix for Portugal. The Man’s, “Modern Jesus.” He bumps up the drums like crazy—compare it to the original to gauge the kick in the pants. Both parties seem very happy with the collaboration:

I recently had a mild freakout based on that fact and thought I’d better start preparing for the inevitable requests for my ‘end of year/best of’ lists so I fired up the ol’ iTunes to find out the tracks I’ve spun the most over the past 10 months…

Peep the video for Modern Jesus below, one of our fave cuts off our album of 2013 Evil Friends. It contains twerking (standard), quad bikes, Fat Albert & The Junkyard Gang (?), John Gourley with a bloodied mouth and other cool/weird shit.
Portugal. The Man’s music has always had hip hop sensibilities and their latest album Evil Friends was no exception, in fact with Danger Mouse on the boards it was probably the furthest they’ve ventured into that world.
DJ Terry Urban obviously saw the potential and has whipped up a super super dope EP where he teams PTM jams with some of his and everyone else’s favourite rappers. Jay Z. Check. Kanye. Check. Biggie. Check.
