INTERVIEW: SAFIA's Top 5 Songs For Your Next Sunset Playlist
Perfect for when the sun's going down!
Perfect for when the sun's going down!
Courtney Walsh pictured above (that’s him on the right) was a very good West Indian fast bowler who took 519 test wickets and bowled over 5000 test overs.
And although we’re sure most Cool Accidents readers are well aware of Walshy Fire, Major Lazer’s MC…
Did you know he happened to be Courtney’s nephew?
A fun fact for your Friday that also serves as a good excuse to spin Walshy’s new project – a great ML remix of hot flava Jesse Royal.
The problem with the new generation of Reggae MCs is it’s hard to figure out what their latest product is. The likes of Movado, Vibz Kartel and Protoje record so much – and for so many labels – that it’s hard to figure out which project is which. That’s probably what has stopped us all showering praise on Pop’Caan’s awesome album Where We Come From which fuses new school urban pop and rasta vibrations in a perfectly infectious mix (try Waiting So Long for the flava).
This is a song we missed from “Trap Lord”. But it’s good, even if we have gone a bit off rappers with dollar signs in their names, yes even our one time fave Joey Bada$$ who has failed to live up to the early promise.
BUT every now and then there is a pearl amongst the swine, a jewel in the shit and the A$AP’s Shabba is a perfect example of this -
I guess it’s not right to whinge about the weather when half the world is either in drought or underwater but the sun bursting out again is nice and had us trying to extend summer a little more by reaching for the reggae.
And whilst we could have been all kinds of smart digging for all sorts of Pressure Sounds rarities and dub b sides to make ourselves feel cool, this week the old and good ones have a comfort factor about them.
You can’t beat a hit sometimes. So do yourselves a favour and bust Gregory doing “Night Nurse”
Today we say fare-thee-well to Junior Murvin… Probably best known for his 1976 tune Police and Thieves which features Murvin’s distinctive soaring falsetto. He passed away in his Port Antonio home this morning. Murvin’s Lee “Scratch” Perry produced album “Police and Thieves” is widely regarded as one of the “Holy Trinity”* records from Perry’s Black Ark period.
My oh my, it’s that time of year again my children. Bones, they be chilly. Fingers, frozen. Knees be a knockin’. Put some slow food in the pot and warm yourself with these delicious jams. That’s right, Mayor Goldie Wilson is back with another Mid-Winter Sound System. This Selection of 12”, 7” and dub versions of rare tracks are bound slow the heart rate to help you hibernate.
