Hailing from New York, pop band MisterWives have had a busy 2019. They've just released a new EP, mini bloom, a follow-up to their 2017 album Connect The Dots. It's a five-song representation of their year so far, and is filled with lyrics that will hit home. They're also currently on tour with Twenty One Pilots, opening up for one of the biggest rock bands on the planet.

MisterWives have always been known for their authenticity, and in an interview with Atwood Magazine, lead singer Mandy Lee said this is a core part of the band's identity. "People always say our music is so real, and it is because it’s coming from a real place. It’s not trying to be something that it isn’t, and it’s not chasing what’s trendy in music or trying to be cool; it’s really just us pouring our hearts out in three minutes." MisterWives don't hold back, and that's part of what makes them so endearing.

Speaking to Culture Collide after the release of their 2017 album, the band delved into their songwriting process - though, as the band says, every song comes together differently. "It depends, sometimes it’s a melody that’s in my head. Sometimes there is a lyric and a melody that is stuck in my head and it’s written simultaneously. For the most part, sometimes I’ll have a melody in my head that I can’t get out and I’ll go back and forth between the melody and my voice memos and I’ll flesh it out that way. For the most part the music and the lyrics inspire each other at the same time. Very old school."

Whywhywhy was the first taste of music off the new EP, and one that meant a lot to the band. Speaking to Billboard about writing the track, Mandy said, "Whywhywhy" was one of the first songs that I wrote and that was maybe a year, a year and a half ago. It's all very recent. It's so funny when you start to write a record you're like, "I don't know what this is gonna look like, how this is gonna form," and just now on my way here, I saw a massive mural on the sidewalk that looks like one of the images on my mood board, that was one of the big inspirations for the album's artwork.

"There have been so many little signs from the universe like that, saying, "Oh, this is the right track." All these little tiny moments of kismet, like, "OK, this feels right." ‘Cause you doubt yourself the whole way through, and during and after!" There's no doubt that whywhywhy is one of the band's best songs yet, and a perfect encapsulation of what they're trying to do sonically.

Given how polished their sound is on their latest EP, we can't wait to see what MisterWives put out next. They're one of the most exciting bands going around, and while there's high expectations going into the next phase of their music career, there's no doubt they'll exceed those expectations, and then some.
