Pop star Britney Spears has opened up about the pain and suffering she's been through as a result of her conservatorship while speaking in front of Los Angeles probate judge Brenda Penny, and it's worse than any of us ever thought.
Britney is looking for the "abusive" conservatorship to end after her father and those around her have controlled her life for the last 13 years.
The speech outlines the effects that the conservatorship has had on her physical and mental health, as well as the level of control that's been had over her by those in her circle. It's a powerful speech, and one that we hope makes waves around the world.
She says, "I’ve lied and told the whole world 'I’m OK and I’m happy.' It’s a lie. I thought I just maybe if I said that enough. Because I’ve been in denial. I’ve been in shock. I am traumatised.
"You know, fake it 'til you make it. But now I’m telling you the truth, OK? I’m not happy. I can’t sleep. I’m so angry it’s insane. And I’m depressed. I cry every day."
The speech is the first time she's spoken about the conservatorship in open court, and it comes after a groundswell of support in recent times for Britney, as well as a highly watched documentary.
Following the speech, there's been an outpouring of love from artists like Tinashe, Brandy and Halsey, and it's heartening to see that there are so many people hoping for the best for Britney.
Sending all my love and support to Britney Spears and her fans ♥️
