Party pop connoisseur Kira Puru has just gotten off a killer run on Listen Out Festival and now with her new single Fly taking off too (sorry), we sat down with the Melbourne-based groover to check out what her favourite songs on flying are.
We let her keep her picks pretty broad, so Kira's shared her fave songs to do with planes, travelling AND literal birds.
Check them out below!
arctic monkeys - 505
I’m a huge Arctic Monkeys fan. I think Alex Turner’s writing is really fucking good. Being busy, touring lots and perpetually missing your lover is probably a universal theme for all musicians. Some of these lines kill me.
olympia - tourists
Olympia and I met at a show that we played together with Kimbra and Sophia Brous a few years ago. I fell completely head over heels for her voice and her insane storytelling. I especially love listening to her talking about how and what she writes songs about.
the beatles - blackbird
I haven't met anyone who didn't like this song.
Alison Kraus & Gillian Welch - I'll Fly Away
I had the Oh Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack way before I'd ever seen the film. My friend Geordie and I used to have a depressing bluegrass band called Woe & Sorrow and we played this and countless other depressing country ballads. I miss that band.
MIA - Paper Planes
I love everything about MIA but especially how much of her culture and politics she brings into her music.
Kira Puru's self-titled EP is out now, and she's heading out on the Fly tour from November 23rd until December 7th.
