Kita Alexander Talks Becoming A Mum, Travelling The World And Her Most Personal Song Yet 'Hotel'

    POSTED

It's been a pretty life-changing year or so for Aussie muso Kita Alexander. She became a Mum, travelled the world and dropped her most personal work to date Hotel.

We haven't caught up with Alexander since she burst onto the scene with her debut EP Like You Want To so we thought it was about time we asked some Q's about where she's at, how she's been and where she's going.

Where in the world are you Kita?

Currently I am sitting on my couch at home in Lennox Head.

Looks like you've been chasing the European summer. How has that been?

It was really fun! My little family and I went to Switzerland, France and Portugal. Switzerland was our favourite, we were landlocked and explored heaps of mountains, which is different for us. So happy to be home now though.

'Hotel' has had a really good response here and just keeps making its way to more ears. Given how personal it is, is that scary or comforting?

If you’d told me how well it would be received when I wrote it, I’d be scared. But strangely now that I’m here and it’s reaching more and more ears, it is surprisingly comforting.

Where were you when you predominantly wrote the lyrics for this?

I was in a studio in Hollywood.

Do you have to be in a certain location or head space to write lyrics like these?

Funnily enough, normally I’d say yes... for example I usually have to be by myself, with nothing on my mind, just me and a pen, in nature or in a busy park bench or cafe people watching. But for this song, I was as far away from that as I could be ha. I think it honestly was just the right time for this song. It wouldn’t have matter where I was. It was meant to be written.

You've had some huge life experiences since 'My Own Way' including becoming a Mum. How do you think your music has changed since then?

I think my music has matured, along with me. It’s harder to write songs that are light and fluffy now. The easiest ones come from when they’re current feelings and experiences.

You've written with some amazing people but do you have someone you'd write with if anything was possible?

SIA and Stevie nicks. Preferably in one room all together haha.

What's next for you? Are you eyeing an album?

I’m always eyeing an album, but right now I am so happy releasing track by track, and going slowly so I can really enjoy these precious moments with my family.
