Indonesian rapper Rich Brian is a big fan of Australia, and he's solidified his love for us with his new track Sydney. He's sold out a few shows in Sydney before, so it holds a special place in his heart.
It's his first single of 2021, and it'll get you bopping along no matter where you are. He's spitting over a self-produced beat, and it's a track about appreciating your artistic growth - with a few tongue-in-cheek bars thrown in, like, "An ocean full of drip, but you still lost just like you're Nemo".
Speaking about the track, Brian says it was influenced by an iconic hip-hop group. "I created Sydney after listening to a ton of Three 6 Mafia. The entire production of this single was heavily inspired by the hip-hop group. I also wanted to hear myself flexing about my life over some beautiful saxophone."
He also touches on the Australian theme of the track, saying, "I last went to Sydney on the Sailor Australia tour at the end of 2019- the energy there was incredible both from the crowd and the amazing city. When I started rapping over this beat, Sydney was the city that naturally came to mind to flex with."
ICYMI, we linked up local legend Froomes and Rich Brian to talk about his 1999 EP, and it's a super wholesome chat. They chat about memes and manifesting your goals, which ties in nicely to the theme of Sydney. It's also absolutely hilarious (after all, both Brian and Froomes love a laugh), and you can check it out below.

It's actually not the first time that Brian's released a track named after an Australian town. On The 88rising group album, Head In The Clouds II, he released the breezy Gold Coast. Speaking to Filter Magazine, he says going to the Gold Coast "was the most memorable experience of my life".
Check out Sydney below. It's a bouncy, fresh track about feeling comfortable in your own skin, and growing as a creative. Rich Brian is always changing things up, and we can't wait for what's in store for 2021!
