The news that Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak have teamed up to form the band Silk Sonic is super exciting, and the first taste of the album has just dropped. Leave The Door Open is one of the smoothest songs we've heard in a while, and it's a love song that's sweet enough to make even the coldest of hearts melt.
Named Silk Sonic by the special guest on the album, Bootsy Collins, it's hard to think of a better name for this project based on this initial track. Backed by some seriously angelic back-up singers, both Bruno and Anderson are singing their hearts out. If you've got a romantic occasion coming up, playing this will get the mood just right.
To celebrate their upcoming album, An Evening With Silk Sonic, we've taken a look at what we're hoping for from the album. When you get two superstars on the same track - let alone an album - magic happens, and we're hoping they've got a few surprises up their sleeve...
Off-the-wall music videos that capture their personalities
Both Bruno and Anderson are incredibly charismatic, and you can see that in the music videos they've released over the years. Imagine what they'd produce if they were acting in music videos together? We'd love to see Bruno swagging out as he did in the music videos for Uptown Funk, Treasure and more, and Anderson .Paak spreading important messages as he did in the music video for Lockdown.
We're hoping that they've got some innovative ideas for clips to go along with the album, because we'd love to learn more about the world of Silk Sonic. This is the type of project that deserves some left-field ideas, and there's no telling what they've been cooking up!
Surprise appearances from hip-hop and pop superstars
Silk Sonic have announced that Parliament-Funkadelic's Bootsy Collins will be a "special guest host" on the album, and we can't wait to hear how that plays out. However, we're hoping that Bruno and Anderson bring along a few more friends for the ride - after all, what's a collaborative album without a few left-field guests.
Separately, the pair have recently worked with artists like Cardi B, Ed Sheeran, Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Cordae and many more. Hopefully, we get to hear some of those names (as well as other musical superstars) featuring on the album. 2021 could use some huge collaborations, and we'd love to hear how some of the world's biggest artists go when they're working with the Silk Sonic band.
Silky smooth tunes to set the mood
With a band name like Silk Sonic, we're hoping for some smooth tunes. After all, Bruno and Anderson are both known for bringing the funk in their music, so when you combine their powers, we're expecting some tracks that'll get us grooving.
If Leave The Door Open is anything to go by, that's exactly what they've got in store. Anderson, Bruno and Bootsy are all set to bring the funk, and we're pretty confident we won't hear anything silkier than this in 2021. This might turn out to be the suavest album of 2021, and that's got us very, very excited!
A range of genres represented, like hip-hop, funk and soul
When you've got two musicians as versatile as Bruno and Anderson, then we're expecting them to experiment. Whether it's leaning into hip-hop/rap, R&B, funk, soul and any other genres you can think of, we're expecting some surprises.
Who knows, we might get some rapping from Bruno, some crooning from Anderson and a myriad of other styles. There's no doubt that their musical talents will rub off on each other, and we can't wait to hear how this ends up sounding!
A wild backstory that might or might not be true
It's always great when artists build a world around their music, and we'd love to know more about how these two ended up in the studio together. Of course, they've toured together before, but we're hoping for more than that!
We'd love to hear them spin some yarns about working together, even if they're not quite true. We all need a distraction in 2021, and we're hoping that Bruno and Anderson can come up with some wild tales to keep us hooked.
A tour of small jazz clubs around the world
We're hoping by the time An Evening With Silk Sonic drops, touring is starting to return to normal. We'd love to spend An Evening With Silk Sonic for real, because both Bruno and Anderson have put on huge shows in their own right, so imagine if they combined their powers?
It'd be a great way to celebrate a return to live music, as well as experience two superstars at the peak of their powers. Fingers and toes crossed that audiences across the world can spend An Evening With Silk Sonic - after the events of the last 12 months, it's what music lovers everywhere deserve.
