TGIF with Bertie Blackman

When we hit up Bertie Blackman for her Thank God It’s Friday playlist we were confident we’d be treated to a bunch of quality jams and guess what? We were so RIGHT!

Not only does BB know how to pick a jam but the Über talented singer/songwriter/artist in the true sense of the word has written her fair share over the years too. New single War Of One is no exception and sounds like the soundtrack to your teenhood if it was directed by John Hughes.

Her new record The Dash drops on October 31 so it’s up to you, either wait for your own John Cusack to rock up to your house with a boombox to hear it or maybe just get your pre-order on through iTunes.

In the meantime checkout Bertie’s all killer no filler selections below with a little explanation as to why each joint made the cut and give thanks to God that the weekend has landed!

    TGIF WITH BERTIE BLACKMAN

    RUN-DMC - Peter Piper
At the roots of hip hop, this one is a classic. Try singing these words after you’ve had a few drinks!

Talking Heads - Once In a Lifetime
These guys are one of my favourite bands of all-time… Get out your oversized suit and enjoy.

Blondie - Hanging On the Telephone
This is my answering machine message.

    Solange- Losing You
Perfect 3pm on a Friday pick me up song, to get you through those last few hours.

CHVRCHES - The Mother We Share
This song reminds me of London when you walk around at night with your headphones on and take it all in.

Sky Ferreira – You’re Not The One
I love the guitars in this track and I ALWAYS sing out loud when I hear the chorus!

    Little Dragon - Klapp Klapp
Just a fucking cool track. These guys are kick arse.

    Major Lazer - Get Free
It’s a roll down your windows all the way tune… on the way to find a novelty sized cocktail.

Röyksopp & Robyn – Do It Again
I love this collaboration. I’m a big fan of both artists… so just. play it. again.

    Underworld - Born Slippy
I heard this track in the car the other day on triple j… and I literally jumped out of my seat from excitement. I cranked it. People stared. I didn’t care. It’s the perfect anthem to terrorise to.

Bonus Bootleg Beat (you won’t find on Spotify): Friendships - SSLOWW
A cover of the Kylie Minogue classic.. Slow motion dance actions.
