It's been a huge week for established artists returning so here's very fine list of six excellent songs that graced us this week.
Mac Demarco - This Old Dog
The Mac is back. He's got a new album This Old Dog coming out 5th May and this is the whimsical title track from it. It's Mac at his best. Him and a guitar and some of the most genuine lyrics you're likely to hear this year.
Father John Misty - Ballad Of The Dying Man
Father John Misty is not about to crack a smile at the state of the world and his new album Pure Comedy is likely to be one of the most powerful of the year. Ballad Of The Dying Man is a sombre, restrospective track that has Father John wandering through a bluesy piano-driven soundscape.
Future Island - Ran
It's not easy to follow up an album that built you to the highest point in your career but Future Islands have done a valiant job with the first single off their forthcoming album The Far Field. Ran is a racing, energetic anthem that encapsulates all the band's best traits. It's bound for the stage where it's sure to be stunning.
London Grammar - Big Picture
So many acts are returning this week and London Grammar is one of them. They dropped the second track Big Picture off a forthcoming new album and it's a sweeping, cinematic opus that's grander than anything they've ever attemped before.
Dune Rats - Don't Talk
Dune Rats dropped their new record The Kids Will Know It's Bullshit today and it starts with this absolute ripper Don't Talk. Dunies have stepped it up for this record and this one is a great example of that. It's beefier, grittier and more stadium-bound.
Stormzy - Big For Your Boots
Stormzy has broken nine months of silence, dropping the first single off his new album Gang Signs & Prayer. Big For Your Boots is a massive, focussed grime tracks that proves Stormzy is the only grime MC providing a real challenge to Skepta right now.
