You may have seen artists like Stormzy, Royal Blood, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay and more rocking simple coloured t-shirts, emblazoned with a huge 'Love Music Hate Racism' text. Obviously we agree with the statement wholeheartedly, but what is it all about?
Basically, Love Music Hate Racism is a non-partisan campaign run out of the UK, aiming to unify those in the music industry and around us, with the ultimate goal to becoming an educational trust. Backed by the rising reports of racism in the UK, USA, Europe and Australia, the campaign is basically reiterating the idea that hate and bigotry is not the way, particularly in the music world. They aim to unite music-lovers from all walks of life, not divide them.
It's an incredible initiative, especially when we see that a lack of diversity in the Australian music industry, festival line-ups and the Australian media is rife. We at Cool Accidents would love to see stages, festivals, venues and music industry companies become a more diverse, inclusive and welcoming place, and Love Music Hate Racism seems like a great step forward to increase awareness of this ongoing issue.
Love Music Hate Racism is starting with a campaign called Beautiful Resistance from March 8th until March 22nd, leading up to the UN International Day For The Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
Don't be fooled though - the campaign is not just for two weeks. Their work is endless and ongoing, so expect to see a lot more of your favourite artists in some of these t-shirts to support an awesome and very necessary cause.
We support our UK partners in bringing their Love Music Hate Racism initiative to the world on a global scale. Stay tuned to find out more about what you can do, and how you can be involved. Read more here.
