December usually brings about some degree of reflection as we look back upon all things 2013 and wonder where it all went wrong. Whoa now, it didn’t all go wrong though did it? The list below is testament to a few of the things that went right in Australian music.

You may have heard him referred to as the Crystal Cologne Whiff aka The Cosmic Romance aka Usher’s Favourite Jacket aka The Sonic Make-Out Session aka The HotCrotch of Melbourne aka Ear Impregnator aka one half of Oscar + Martin aka the beat end of Brothers Hand Mirror aka The Galaxy Colossus aka The Big Balls.

It’s that time of the month where we get to flex our pretty amazing and crazy diverse taste in music by selecting a whole host of choice cuts, from the freshest new tunes to some old classics we’ve revisited over the month of August.

One of the better parts of life is the ability to snag a free door pass or two, and thus to check out acts that otherwise would be too expensive to bother seeing (what is it with the price of tickets?). So this weekend I set out to exploit that right in full, flushed by the relative success of Fidlar/Dune Rats live. That gig had most of the normal shortcomings – horrible sound, bad sightlines, over priced drinks but also a pleasant freshness and intensity and a lively moshpit. Live music was redeemed for a moment.
