One-third of the HAIM sisters, Alana Haim, is set to star in Paul Thomas Anderson's new film Licorice Pizza, and the first trailer has just arrived. The official synopsis of the film says it "tracks the treacherous navigation of first love," so colour us intrigued.
The film is set in the 1970s in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley and will feature the likes of Tom Waits, Sean Penn, Bradley Cooper, Benny Safdie and Maya Rudolph, as well as Cooper Hoffman, the son of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Licorice Pizza will focus on Cooper's character, Gary Valentine, who is a high school student becoming an actor. The film will explore his relationship with Alana, who plays Alana Kane, and the roadblocks that life puts in the way of love. In the trailer, we get a glimpse into their relationship, and at 1:18, someone who looks a hell of a lot like Danielle Haim shows up.
It's the first time both Alana and Cooper Hoffman have appeared in a film, but it's not the first time she's worked with the director PTA. He worked on a number of music videos for HAIM's most recent album Women In Rock Pt. III, even inspiring their track Summer Girl thanks to some unused film dialogue he gave to the band.
