Former U.S President Barack Obama loves sharing summer playlists, and his summer 2022 playlist is full of bangers. This edition of the playlist features recent hits by Kendrick Lamar, Beyoncé, Sampa The Great and more, as well as classics by the likes of Aretha Franklin, Miles Davis and Al Green.
The playlist also features Omar Apollo's Tamagotchi, a track that was produced by Pharrell and Chad Hugo (aka The Neptunes), and Burna Boy's Last Last, a track that features on Burna's recent album Love, Damini. Clearly, Barack keeps up with what's going on in the world of music.
When sharing the playlist on Twitter, Barack also wrote, "Every year, I get excited to share my summer playlist because I learn about so many new artists from your replies—it’s an example of how music really can bring us all together. Here’s what I’ve been listening to this summer. What songs would you add?" No notes from us, 10/10.
Tamagotchi features on Omar's highly anticipated debut album, Ivory, a project that was well worth the wait. We recently spoke to Omar about the recording of Tamagotchi, and he revealed, "Tamagotchi was the last song we made while I was in Miami.
"I walked in and Pharrell was talking to Freddie Gibbs downstairs. As soon as he saw me walk in, he’s like ‘Omar! I’ve got this beat’. I’m like ‘Yo, say less’ and he’s like ‘They’re going to load it up for you, I feel like you’re going to kill it,’ and I was like, ‘Alright!’.

"I don’t know when he made that beat, like that morning or something? I’m not sure. But I just went upstairs and made Tamagotchi, it’s so sick." You can check out the full list of what Barack Obama's been listening to below, as well as Spotify and Apple Music versions of the playlist!
