daine has released her new single sleepwalking, and it's a track that channels the haze that takes over your life after you're no longer connected to someone you care about. daine's reflective vocal performance brings out every ounce of emotion present in lyrics like "I'm running and you clawed at my skin", and sleepwalking is a glimpse into daine's soul.
While this might not be a melancholy track, sleepwalking will bring evoke some visceral emotions and bring back some powerful memories. Disconnecting from someone can often be the best move you can make, but that doesn't mean it hurts any less. In the end, daine's confident that she's going to be OK, asserting that, "You feel things you can't escape, but I think I'm alright on my own".
The track was produced by Lonelyspeck, while blvu plays guitar on the track. Brevin Kim and hearteyes also contributed additional production. The song sits snugly in the worlds of shoegaze and hip-hop, and it's a captivating listen. It's an exciting time to be a daine fan.
sleepwalking follows on from the release of daine's debut project Quantum Jumping, which daine described as a “tombstone to her adolescence”. The project is an insight into where her sound came from, while sleepwalking is a glimpse of where her sound's going.
