J. Cole recently attended a New Jersey college graduation, and it turns out that it's the latest chapter in a story that started with a promise that he made to a fan almost a decade ago.
Twitter user @princess_simba (aka Cierra Bosarge-Fussell) first met J. Cole in 2013, after calling into Philadelphia's Hot 107.9 to ask for a birthday wish from the rapper. However, the station wasn't able to make it happen at the time, despite their best efforts.
The story doesn't end there, however. The pair met in person months later, after J. Cole called her to pass on belated birthday wishes, suggesting that they meet up next time he was in her home city of Philadelphia. Once the pair met, Cierra gave him a letter explaining her life story. It turns out it was a letter that she'd written for him long before they'd met in the hopes that they'd one day meet.
Speaking to Complex about the meeting back in 2015, Cierra told them about the contents of the letter. She explained, "In the letter it says all I went through. With being adopted, my parents being hooked on drugs, in and out of prison. At the time both parents were in prison so I asked him could he come to my graduation since they can't."

After reading the letter, J. Cole made a promise to Cierra. He reached out to her on Twitter, saying that if she was accepted into college and got good grades, he'd come to her high school graduation. He delivered on the promise, attending her high school graduation. That same promise is why he recently found himself celebrating Cierra's graduation from Rowan University.
