Before today we had absolutely no idea what MEREWIF was but now we know it’s just another name for post-Australian sound Krishna fused glitch-pop spiritualism.
It wouldn’t take a genius to work out that an amalgamation of soul queen Mø, production legend Diplo and Manchester’s vastly promising whiz-kid Oceaán, international character overload, was likely to be a small taste of heaven but such a genius could not have imagined just how soul crushingly splendid Oceaán’s remix of XXX 88 would end up. It’s pure crack for the masses who devour themselves in the excruciatingly addictive atmosphere that Oceaán adds to what was already one of the tracks of the year.
You got to hand it to the Swedish House Mafia. They patented their high pitched screech, dropped a global Number One with a clip that erased memories that Led Zeppelin ever played Knebworth and then got the hell out while the getting out was good. That left us with everyone from Gaga to Im riding the screech until the time when it has become so common place that it will be underpinning the next Good Guys ad.
Flume’s Holdin’ On was always begging for a version with an emcee spittin’ some raps over the top and now that the kid has dominated enough to warrant a deluxe edition of his debut we’re in luck!
