It was officially the first day of winter… in terms of the temperature, not literally… and fellow Aussies, Triple J Unearthed artists The Griswolds were playing at Brooklyn Bowl.  So feeling like some Aussie warmth, I piled on my 14^th item of clothing (it’s true, I counted) and trudged my way through the icy wind to one of my favourite music venues in New York.

Listening to the Triple J Hottest 100 is a fabulous way to spend your Australia Day, but what if you need to catch up on the prolific countdown and just don’t have the time to listen to all of it? Try this: three men, 100 songs, 32 minutes.

How do you find your music? Maybe you read blogs like this one, maybe you use Spotify and subscribe to the tastemakers, maybe you trawl Soundcloud and Bandcamp late on lonely Saturday nights to find the freshest thing. As much as there are many new avenues for finding fresh, raw talent, the still great champion of unearthed talent is radio, in particular community radio.

I’m 32 years old. I’ve got a great job that I love, a girlfriend whom I adore, a nice car, a family that loves me, a sweet house about 5 minutes out of the city, and enough money to eat a decent meal each day.

But still, I’m homeless. Radio homeless.

How did this happen?!?!

As a 32 year old, I have no radio home. No place where I feel really comfortable listening.

You may already have seen our Hottest 100 related music quiz but I think I’d like to talk a little further about the forthcoming Hottest 100 for 2012. Firstly, I want to say that it’s bloody hard to figure out whether or not to call it the Hottest 100 2012 or 2013. OK, glad I got that off my chest.
