Which makes (or made rather sadly) Martin Sharp a very important Australian artist.
Christopher Walken boogies alone in an abandoned hotel lobby. Gotye and Kimbra are slowly painted into a geometric art piece. A plasticine Peter Gabriel sledgehammers his face into a yin and yang. OK Go perform a treadmill ballet. A black-and-white Madonna strikes a Vogue pose. Psy does a horsey dance.
For their most recent album Evil Friends, Portugal. The Man enlisted legendary producer Danger Mouse to add a little of his signature gloss to their already dreamy sound—which is on full-display in their single “Modern Jesus.” But here, we’re happy to get even more glossier, as Thom Green from England’s Alt-J gets in the mix, offering a wobbling take on the already wavy track.
There is a street corner in Collingwood that for me is a nexus of art and music. A busy rundown corner that was the home to a beautiful shithole of a pub and the crumbling ruins of one of a mural by one the worlds most celebrated street artists… Ok enough already, I’m talking about The Tote and one of only 30 surviving large scale Keith Haring murals left on the planet…
