This time last week, pop newcomer Olivia Rodrigo released her official debut single Driver's License and in just a week it's become the biggest song in the world.
While she was known for her work in Disney series High School Music: The Musical: The Series, she was relatively unknown in the mainstream before now.
Driver's License has broken the record for the biggest single-day streams on Spotify for a non-holiday song with 15.17 million global streams. Now, Spotify has chimed in to talk about the success and just like us they're amazed by how quickly the song has spread.
Talking to Billboard, Spotify's Global Hits lead Becky Bass said, "We've never seen anything like this."
"I mean, we were like, “Whoa, these first day numbers are huge!” And then they were bigger the second day, bigger the third day… so it really feels unprecedented, and likely is unprecedented."
Bass thinks that the success comes down to a "perfect storm" of a great song, a new artist and some drama to go with it. Rumour has it Rodrigo was dating co-star Joshua Bassett and this song is about him. He's also releasing a new song this week called Lie Lie Lie.
"I can’t say that the pop audience wasn’t hungry for a big pop song as well," she adds.
It's probably also helped that Taylor Swift is a fan and has been championing Rodrigo on social media.
If you're still wondering who Rodrigo is, here's a primer.
